The best robot mower for a sloping block

The cheapest model that meets every requirement
Ecovacs GOAT A2000 LiDAR Pro, $2,999
If your lawn isn’t the one this list assumes, the answer changes: change it in the matcher.
Slope is where robot mowers part company. Most wire-free models are rated for a moderate grade, and only a few will hold a line across a bank twice as steep.
The case below is a mid-sized block whose steepest stretch rises one metre for every two along the ground, a fifty per cent grade, with one lawn and no wire.
What it has to have
- Rated for 800 m² or more. The maker's rated area is the most lawn it keeps cut; below that it falls behind in the growing season.
- Climbs 50% or steeper. Past its rated slope a mower slips, stalls or leaves the steep patch uncut.
- No boundary wire. You'd rather draw the boundary in an app than bury a wire around every edge.

How to choose
Read the slope figure in percent, and read it twice. Makers mix their units: eufy gives its E-series limit in degrees and, on one product page, a percent that doesn't match those degrees, while Husqvarna quotes a lower limit at the boundary than inside the lawn. We convert everything to percent and use the lower figure wherever a maker disagrees with itself.
All-wheel drive is Mammotion's answer: its LUBA models are rated for 80%, against 45% for the rear-wheel-drive YUKA mini 2. Ecovacs's GOAT A2000 is rated for 50% with a wider 330 mm cut, though Ecovacs doesn't say how its wheels are driven.

Questions
What if part of my block is steeper than any rating?
The makers don't say what happens past their limit, and the matcher leaves out any mower rated below your steepest stretch. The practical answer is to mark the worst bank as a no-go zone in the app and mow it some other way.
